Choice or Chance

When we meet the right person to love, when we're at the right place at the right time, that's chance.

When you meet someone you're attracted to, that's not a choice. That's chance.

Being caught up in a moment (and there are a lot of couples who get together because of this) is not a choice. That's also a chance.

The difference is what happens afterwards. When will you take that infatuation, that crush, that mind-blowing attraction to the next level? That's when all sanity goes back, you sit down and contemplate whether you want to make this into a concrete relationship or just a fling.

If you decide to love a person, even with his faults, that's not a chance. That's choice.

When you choose to be with a person, no matter what, that's choice.

Even if you know there are many people out there who are more attractive, smarter, and richer than your mate, and yet, you decide to love your mate just the same, that's choice.

Infatuation, crushes, and attraction come to us by chance. But true love that lasts is truly a choice. A choice that we make.

Regarding soulmates, there's a beautiful movie quote that I believe is so true about this: "Fate brings you together, but it's still up to you to make it happen."

I believe that soulmates do exist, that there is truly someone made for you. But it's still up to you to make the choice if you're going to do something about it or not.

We may meet our soulmates by chance, but loving and staying with our soulmate is still a choice we have to make.

We came to the world not for finding someone perfect to love, BUT to learn how to love an imperfect person perfectly.

Nice blog. About the post though, if we choose to love, then doesn't that defy the concept of love? What is emotion then? While I do believe in choice, at some stage, one must admit that the best laid plans often go astray. Do I choose everything? Or are my choices destined to be made? Interesting thought.

Anyway, Happy New Year. And once again, nice blog.

Not a philosopher or anything. Just that I often wonder over just what choice is and what destiny is...and over whether the two can co-exist. Do we choose our destiny? Or are our choices destined? As for love, can one choose to love? We may know a perfect person, but may not love that person, but another. It happens so often.....

actually M, i think, destiny plays its part only to an extent. beyond that the choice ours. destiny only decides when the rendezvous with a person must happen. after that, we may or may not love that person; there are many factors and some unknown forces at play during this stage. but once we begin to love a person, the choice is essentially ours - whether we remain true to the love, whether we respect the trust the other person invests in us or whether we are prepared to scale any length for the one we love...isn't it?

Slight difference of opinion. You see, we meet, yes, by destiny. But what then? Do we really CHOOSE? No! You may KNOW that the other is not even single, and yet find yourself drawn inexorably towards him/her. What's that? It's so with all of life. All our choices seem to have been predecided. If you get what I mean. I once posted on this subject actually.....

BTW, I'm linking you on my Blogroll.....
